Nanoparticles are prepared in porous aluminium templates through the reactions of dissolved materials. Choice of solvent requires consideration of its compatibility with the template and suitability for the reaction. Using the Washburn technique, the template is lowered into the solvent and the forces involved are measured. From this information we can determine advancing and receding contact angles.
